Cave Arrows is actually for cave divers. But I have also added extra holes so that even campers, wilderness people have use of it, as an example if you need to tension a line, or brace something.
Cave arrows are used as a guide in the cave if the lamp breaks. The arrows should point in the direction you entered. Cave arrows have saved many divers both in caves and on various boat wrecks.
The reason why this particular design is because it has a meaning,
I am aware that there are others that are similar to this, but this one was created back in 2013, at that time you had to do it with a cnc milling machine.
For me, this design is a reminder.
Long story short. Appeared on a wreck a little bit off the coast of Sweden (Skåne). I was stressed and forgot Cave Arrows and buoy left on the boat, as a technical diver I have double of everything, 2 knives, 2 lights etc. Back to the story, comes from the group I dive with and notices that my lamp is starting to get weaker, and then stops working, switches over to the next lamp, notices that it doesn't work (the batteries are at home on charge) So then I find myself 30 meters into the wreck at 40m depth and there is no light at all, it's black
Panic begins to set in, my brain begins to imagine things, I no longer know what is in front or back of the wreck, I see a small faint blue light, it is the pressure gauge that shows that the air is running out. The air I normally consume in 25 - 30 minutes I have now used in less than 5 minutes. Right then I think that I will never survive this, I can't really explain what is happening but it's just like someone is telling me, swim straight ahead 20m, turn left, swim 10m then there will be a staircase follow it and you will get out, I did as the "voice" said, just as I come out of the wreck the pressure gauge warns, I have 50 bar left
I need to make a safety stop of 5 minutes, it will never work with so little air. Sees the rope from the boat and starts swimming towards it, 40 bar left, grabs the rope and tries to breathe calmly, looks at the clock and pressure gauge, 2 minutes left and a little over 15 bar left. I feel the panic starting to come again, see the people I dived with come out of the wreck, they see me and I understand that they have been looking for me, signal that my air is gone, let go of the rope. Breaks the surface of the water and feels an incredible relief
After that dive I have said to myself. Check all equipment 2 times, made sure everything is available with X2, I have also made a tattoo with flax arrows as a reminder that carelessness can make you never come home again.
