This model is all original work based upon the Grimdark aesthetic. I modeled it off of original artwork that I have been looking at and thinking of since I was 12…in 1995…geez I'm getting old. Anyways, I wanted to have an appropriate and worthy bracket to hang my growing arsenal of prop weapons that I have been designing, building and sharing with the community. And this is version 1! I tried to do stained glass and it just didn't feel “right” I tried to do chapter Icons and other things, and while they were good, I wanted something more generic for my first version. I can easily create profiles with specific imagery if requested, just reach out and ask! I have a few variations in mind that I may pursue (different style columns, buttresses, maybe even sconces to hold tea-lights or incense censures to add to that “Grimdark Shrine to the Omnissiah” feel that I was looking for to hold my prop weapons). I also wanted to keep the theme of having the “model kit” kind of work that I enjoy designing. I like doing it this way to see if I can design for minimal waste, minimum print times, maximum fun assembling, and simple joinery. My most favorite part of the grimdark hobby was not playing the tabletop game, but modeling and painting the licensed miniatures, and I know many hobbyists out there are like-minded.
Hanging options are myriad. I designed it with a slip-in bracket that you can attach to the wall with either screws or a nail like you would hang a simple picture frame. I also made the slot large and shallow enough to accept a simple adhesive foam tape or one of those “command” type strips with velcron type connections. The Plasma Pistol in the images was designed by me and is not very heavy so these simple adehsive attachments are sufficient in my first use-case.
So here is the Plate breakdown:
Plate 1 - Model kit of wall hanging bracket. the “span” is 55mm, so it can hold up to a 55mm wide object (front to back).
Plate 2 - a longer span of 80mm for those extra beefy objects that need hanging
Plate 3 - a single part option for those of you who do not care about supports. Prints as a single piece.
Why so many plates!?!? Well, I wanted to present this model for people to have options.
I am choosing to use them to hang my prop weapons, but I think they could also be used to hang pictures or other items. Heck, it may even make a good cape hanger or other clothing holder….A backpack maybe. Place two of them level and maybe you could even run a plank between them, making a little display shelf for miniatures or other greeblies. These are super versatile the more I think about it, so please share pictures of what you used it for if you find it useful!
