This is a spike generator, as the name suggests. What can it do for you? Well, it’s up to you! I’ve used mine to keep my cats away from certain areas, but it can also be used to create a scratching post for them. It all depends on how you set it up and what you want to achieve.

Printing

This really depends on your use case and material of choice. I'll write some loose suggestions that might help you in your flow.

🧵 Choosing the material

Choose a material that allows you to obtain your desired results, using outdoor? Maybe ASA or PETG HF. Indoor usage? PLA should suffice.

Remember that you can also print in flexible filament!

📏 Fine tuning

Use a smaller grid size when testing out spike settings; write down the settings so you don't lose them.

Test out the shape before printing; with a bit of imagination, you can have a rough idea if you compare it with the area of the build plate.

For most use cases, draft will be a good setting.

⚠️ Pet reminder

If you're printing this as a pet deterrent, test them with your hand to ensure you've not been too harsh on the settings.

Consider the speed at which your pet might encounter them. If it's a place where they jump to, increase the tip width and make the spikes wider. It’s supposed to be uncomfortable but not cause pain.

If your pets are chewy ones, keep that in mind and maybe add some girth to the spikes.  😅
