I made these door latches for our screened porch that has a standard wooden screen door. This is designed for a door with a thickness of 1.1in (28mm). This door latch is designed to use the door stop in the jamb as a latch post. The door latch is designed for a door stop width of 1.5in (38mm). Differences in the door thickness or door stop material will cause fitment issues which require changing the ScreenDoorInsideLatch and or the ScreenDoorLatch_HexShaft dimensions. Do not scale the hex shaft or screws as they will not function properly.

This door latch is a basic design which requires holding the handle in the turned position to closed the door and latch on the door stop. The handles are assisted by printed springs to hold them in the latched position.

Printing Instructions

It is highly recommended to calibrate for the filament(s) you will be using since the tolerances for the hex shaft and handles/latches are close to prevent excess movement.

Print all 3 plates which results in the following:

Plate  1: Recommended to use ABS/ASA (PETG may be durable enough) 0.20mm layer height, no supports required, painted brim for ASA

• Qty=1 – ScreenDoorInsideLatch
• Qty=1 – ScreenDoorLatch PlateSet (Qty.=1 InsidePlate and Qty.=1 OutsidePlate). The plates have rotation stops to limit the rotation to 90 degrees. 
• Qty.=1 - ScreenDoorLever_inside
• Qty.=1 - ScreenDoorLever_outside

Plate 2: Recommend PETG or ABS/ASA, 0.12mm layer height, print by object, support required

• Qty=1 - ScreenDoorLatch_HexShaft_100.5mm, print in default orientation
• Qty.=2 - ScreenDoorLatch_spring
• Qty.=2 – ScreenDoorLatch_screw, print in default orientation

Plate 3: PLA is sufficient for this, 0.20mm layer height, no supports

• Qty.=1 – ScreenDoorLatch_mountingFixture

[UPDATE 9/24/2025] - I have added an STL file for a 115mm hex shaft for those with thicker doors. It can be ‘cut’ to the needed length using the cut tool in Bambu Studio, or with an actual saw. I recommend using the cut tool in Bambu Studio for accuracy. Measure the thickness of your door and add 73mm to determine the length you need the hex shaft to be. 

[UPDATE 9/26/2025] - I added an STL file for a 165mm long hex shaft for even thicker doors.
