Modelo 3D Hydroponic Growing System (Kratky Method) por Jocke och Laura no MakerWorld

Descrição

This is a hydroponic reservoir system designed for passive, pump-free gardening using the Kratky method. The model includes:

  • Reservoir: A sturdy container for nutrient solution storage.
  • Plant Lid: Designed to hold 2 net pots  with a diameter of 36mm, making it compatible with popular brands like Nelson Garden.
  • Water Level Indicator Floater: When printed with AMS, the floater provides a clear visual cue for both "empty" and "optimal" water levels.
  • Hole Covers: Caps to seal unused net pot holes and the water refill opening. These prevent light from entering the reservoir, reducing the risk of algae growth.

Update: The holes have been slightly enlarged to ensure a better fit for the floater, allowing it to move more smoothly and provide more accurate water level indications.

Usage Note:
This system is intended for plants that already have established roots.

If you’re looking for a solution to start growing plants from seeds, check out my other model designed specifically for germination and early plant development:

Material Considerations and Risks:
This system was prototyped using PLA. However, there are several important considerations:

  1. Material Degradation: PLA is biodegradable and may degrade over time when exposed to water, nutrients, or UV light, potentially reducing the system's lifespan.
  2. Bacterial Growth: The porous surface of 3D-printed parts, especially with PLA, can harbor bacteria or algae, which may affect plant health and water quality over time. Regular cleaning and maintenance are recommended to mitigate this risk.
  3. Chemical Leaching: PLA may leach substances into the nutrient solution, which could impact plant growth or safety. Users should research alternatives like food-safe or water-resistant materials (e.g., PETG or polypropylene) for more durable and safer results.
  4. Leakage Risk with PETG: While PETG is more water-resistant than PLA, it tends to have weaker layer adhesion, which may lead to small leaks along layer lines when exposed to water for extended periods. Consider using higher print temperatures and increased wall thickness to reduce this risk.

Disclaimer:
The decision to use PLA or other materials for hydroponics is at the user’s discretion. This model is independently designed and not affiliated with or endorsed by Nelson Garden.

Applications:
This compact system is ideal for hobbyists exploring the Kratky method of hydroponics, which does not require pumps or aeration. It's suitable for growing leafy greens, herbs, or small plants indoors with minimal effort.
